Abrahamic Reunion Community Service Los Gatos 2019
LOS GATOS, California — On Sunday, February 23, 2019, more than sixty Jews, Christians, and Muslims united to serve the homeless and hungry of San Jose. Led by Br. Kutub Mahmood of West Valley Muslim Association, Sr. Iris Bendahan of Congregation Beth David, Sr. Elisa Koff-Ginsborg of Congregation Shir Hadash, and Rev. Arvin Engelson of Saratoga Federated Church, volunteers first gathered at the new Los Gatos Islamic Center to prepare 300 kosher and halal meals for our friends who live outside. Before transporting the meals to downtown San Jose, Br. Hasnat Ashiq led his community in afternoon prayers, then answered a variety of insightful questions from Jews and Christians. Volunteers then convoyed to Cityteam Men’s Recovery Center to serve the meal. After guests enjoyed seconds, volunteers dined together over more conversations.
Many thanks to Br. Neal Locke, Sr. Iris Bendahan, and Br. Kutub Mahmood for making all preparations. Thanks also to Rev. Arvin Engelson, Sr. Iris Bendahan, and Br.
