Abrahamic Family Reunion BBQ Morgan Hill 2015
MORGAN HILL, Calif. — On Sunday, May 24, 2015, more than 50 Christians and Muslims gathered to celebrate the fourth year of compassionate collaboration between South Valley Islamic Community and Lincoln Glen Church. While serving hundreds of BBQ chicken dinners at a soup kitchen in Gilroy over the years, volunteers often requested a barbecue picnic where they could relax together and enjoy each other’s company without all the demands of meal preparation and service. Four years in the making, this celebration was finally realized. Mohammed Hussain grilled his world famous halal chicken once again. Lunch was followed by games, water relays and sack races for both young and old. Many enjoyed extended conversations over apple pie. Much laughter filled the air. The Abrahamic family reunion ended with an open mic as people shared what they had learned from collaboration, and what they enjoyed most. Friendship, food, and fun was a common theme. Mr. Aziz Baameur closed with a prayer of thanksgiving to God for “calling us to be here and to get to know each other, and to get beyond knowing and actually doing.”
