SAN JOSE, California — On Sunday, October 27, 2013, forty-three Jews, Christians and Muslims united to prepare and serve 220 meals to hungry and homeless guests at Cityteam Men's Recovery Center. Volunteer orientation was led by Rabbi Joshua Berkenwald of Congregation Sinai, Pastor Larry Albright of Lincoln Glen Church, and Brother Amin Zain of Baitul Basir Mosque. Jewish, Christian and Muslim volunteers united in buddy groups to get better acquainted then collaborate to prepare both a kosher and halal meal. Before serving dinner, Rabbi Berkenwald, Pastor Albright and Imam Mubasher Ahmad thanked God for the food and recited traditional blessings in Hebrew, English and Arabic. After meal service volunteers dined together and enjoyed further conversation, building bridges of peace and understanding between faith communities.
