GILROY, California — On Sunday, March 12, 2017, more than thirty-five Christians and Muslims united to serve 150 meals to the homeless and hungry of Gilroy at St. Joseph’s Family Center. Volunteers of all ages got acquainted in small buddy groups before preparing the halal meal together. While several first-timers from both communities were present, more caught up with familiar faces and marveled at how fast their children are growing. To the delight of all, Br. Mohammed Idris Husain barbecued his world famous chicken again, assisted by his grandson Zayd. Pastor Larry Albright of Lincoln Glen Church offered a prayer of thanksgiving before guests enjoyed the meal. After all guests were served, volunteers also dined together. Br. Salah Hamed of South Valley Islamic Community offered a closing prayer, thanking God for the wonderful opportunity of serving our neighbors in need together.
Many thanks to South Valley Islamic Community and Lincoln Glen Church for sponsoring, to Br. Aziz Baameur and Rev. Larry Albright for organizing, to Sr. Nain Hulog, Br. Mike Carlson, Br. Ali Daneshvar, and Sr. Julie Ramos for leading orientation.
