SILICON VALLEY, California — On Sunday, May 15, 2016, more than forty-five Christians and Muslims united at Pacifica Institute to prepare over 300 meals for our friends who live outdoors. Esra Nur Altun of Pacifica Institute warmly welcomed all. Pastor Larry Albright of Lincoln Glen Church led volunteer orientation with Mr. Mehmet Sen. Volunteers broke into small buddy groups to get acquainted. Lively round-table discussions filled the room, then volunteers united to prepare the meal in record time. Children made fresh-squeezed lemonade. Others put finishing touches on the revani, a delicious Turkish dessert. A convoy of volunteers then drove to Cityteam Men’s Recovery Center in San Jose where they served over 300 halal dinners. Pastor Albright and Mr. Oktay Erbil both thanked God in prayer before meal service. After numerous guests enjoyed seconds and thirds, volunteers enjoyed further conversation over dinner together. Guests erupted with applause for the special meal at one point, and volunteers thanked God for the privilege to serve it together. Volunteer kids were especially thankful when Cityteam staff gave them some cakes, pies and cookies to enjoy at home. Special thanks to Lincoln Glen Church and Pacifica Institute for sponsoring the event, and to Mehmet Sen, Oktay Erbil, and Pastor Larry Albright for their excellent leadership.
